Breakfast Kolaches

I make these all the time either for staying in, playdates, long trips.  My kids love them and they are a nice "no mess" snack or or meal.

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups (Unbleached) flour
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup white sugar OR 3 Tablespoons Agave Nectar
  • 3 teaspoons bread machine yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 egg yolk, beaten

  • Filling:
  • 12-18 small precooked sausages
  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 375.  Add all dry ingredients and butter to bread machine first.  Heat milk in glass measuring cup for just enough to warm it.  If it is too hot, bread will not rise.  Add egg, egg yolk and agave nectar (if using) to dry ingredients and start dough cycle.   Once cycle is complete, place small "balls" on cookie sheet sprayed with nonstick spray.  The dough balls should be approx. 1 1/2 inches by 1 1/2 inches.  Place dough in draft free place or in "bread proof" option in oven for 30 minutes.  They should rise slightly.

Place approx. 1/2 tablespoon cheese in center and a sausage on top of each dough ball.  Roll dough over filling and pinch to close leaving the seem on bottom.  Bake 15-20 minutes until lightly brown.  Makes approx 12-18 kolaches.
